How is this calculated?
This calculator estimates your take-home pay by:
- Starting with your gross pay (hourly rate × hours × pay periods, or annual salary ÷ pay periods)
- Subtracting pre-tax deductions (401(k), health insurance premiums, etc.)
- Calculating and subtracting federal income tax based on 2025 tax brackets
- Subtracting Social Security tax (customizable rate, default 6.2% up to the annual wage limit)
- Subtracting Medicare tax (customizable rate, default 1.45% on all earnings)
- Subtracting estimated state income tax based on your entered rate
- Subtracting any post-tax deductions
